Family: Brachiosauridae
Genus: Brachiosaurus
The first Brachiosaurus ever found was by a fellow with the name Elmer S. Riggs. He was digging in 1900 in the Grand River Canyon in Colorado when he stumbled upon a massive fossil. Being the most famous herbivore dinosaur that ever roamed the earth the Brachiosaurus was the most amazing find in the world. It was pretty much the biggest land living life form known to exist. The Brachiosaurus dinosaur measures over 40Feet tall and with the length of 80Feet. It is an absolutely massive dinosaur. A lot of people know that a Brachiosaurus is huge, but many so not know exactly how big it was. Brachiosaurus was the size of 2 city buses nose to nose and more than 6 city buses on top of each other. Just like a walking 2 story house.
Don't get the dinosaur facts wrong, though. Brachiosaurus is known as the biggest however there is evidence that a number of other dinosaurs weighed more than the Brachiosaurus. For example, the Titanosaurians which had extremely solid fossils. The Brachiosaurus has hollow bones. They were very strong, but lightweight at the same time. Because of this the weight of the dinosaur is at a loss over other dinosaurs in the Sauropoda group. People often assume that the Brachiosaurus was a peaceful creature just walking around eating leaves from the tallest trees in the Jurassic Period. Of course it's impossible to know for sure that they were at way but they didn't seem to have many defensive or offensive body parts to them other than size. The Brachiosaurus feet resembled an elephants feet. Another interesting fact is that the Brachiosaurus nostrils were higher than their eyes. This sparked a lot of talk that it may have spent most of its time in water but this was not a very well organized theory by scientists even though they has a little bit of evidence. The nostrils were very large for the size of the Dinosaur. If the Brachiosaurus did live under water than they would've acted like snorkels, but the evidence against this was too strong. The Brachiosaurus body was just not made for water. The feet would've been way too useless because they were too narrow. Also to break that theory the water pressure would've been way too high for a full sized Brachiosaurus to breathe correctly in low amounts of time. Many complete fossils of the Brachiosaurus were found in the regions of Both Africa and North America . This has opened up a new theory on the evolution of world and the way it might have looked back in the Jurassic Era. Both of these countries are separated by the Atlantic Ocean which means that it's possible that America and Africa were together as one land structure. Very possible actually because there has been many other dinosaur species that had the same thing in common.
